60th Anniversary Celebrations for Top Mallorcan Hotel

Bon Sol Logo (2)The Hotel BonSol Resort & Spa in Illetas near Palma is celebrating 60 years of welcoming guests to Mallorca, the most popular destination for British visitors.

A series of celebratory events are planned during 2013, including Gala Dinners every weekend and some special events in June.   Guests will also be presented with a commemorative gift and a book on the history of the hotel and tourism in Mallorca.

The family-owned BonSol, is one of Mallorca’s best loved hotels.  It’s come a long way since it first started receiving guests in 1953, but with more than 82% repeat guests, it is still renowned for its unique style, personal service and excellent cuisine.

Fifty years ago the present owner’s parents, Antonio & Roger Xamena, moved from Palma to Illetas and refurbished an old manor house on the Bendinat Castle Estate.    Missing the bustle of life in Palma, they decided to take in paying guests and arranged for taxi drivers to recommend BonSol to cruise passengers arriving at Palma’s thriving port.  One of the very first guests was Errol Flynn who returned several times and eventually rented a house nearby.

The 4* hotel is still managed by Martin Xamena and his family.  The hotel has of course expanded over the last 60 years, but all with minimal impact on the environment from the outset. It now has 92 charming with a further 35 villas rooms spread around the sub-tropical gardens, which are some of the finest on the island.  In 2001 the hotel was awarded the prestigious EMAS award, a Government award for ecological achievements.  It also runs a tree-planting project in Costa Rica employing 30 local families.

The emphasis is all about relaxation and well-being with great cuisine, both Mallorquin and international, with an excellent wine cellar to match.  There are 3 swimming pools, tennis courts, squash, mini-golf and indoor games, and in recent years a luxury spa and leisure area has been developed and guests are offered complimentary yoga and Tai –Chi lessons with a free Childrens Club programme during school holidays.
